Florence is a Brooklyn-based Theatre Director and Costume Designer originally from Aotearoa - New Zealand. She recently completed her MFA in Directing at Brooklyn College where she was awarded the Maria Ann Conelli and Kim J. Hartswick Award in Directing. At Brooklyn College, Florence directed productions of In The Next Room or The Vibrator Play by Sarah Ruhl and When The Tanks Break by Anne Washburn.
Recent credits include The Little Prince, by Rick Cummins and John Scoullar from the book by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (Northwest Children's Theater), Endless Moon, Free Chickpea by Anya Richkind (Weasel Festival, The Tank), Start Up, by Larisa Kruesi (SheNYC, The Connely), and Throughoutiveness by Emily Krause (IRT). Florence has also worked with The Bushwick Starr, En Garde Arts, The Public Theater, Rattlestick Playwrights Center, Irondale Ensemble Project, and Northwest Children's Theater and School. As an artist, Florence is dedicated to crafting spaces that are joyful, intentional, and honest. She focuses on infusing everyday stories with a touch of magic, especially through narratives centered on women and LGBTQ+ experiences. Her work explores our connections to our bodies, each other, and the world around us. |
